Riya, Week #2 - What BuzzFeed Quizzes Mean to Me

When I think of BuzzFeed quizzes, what immediately comes to mind is younger me and my cousins huddling up, taking turns doing quizzes together on my cousin’s laptop. Though we played all sorts of quizzes, such as trivia and personality, my favorites were always the food ones. I deeply cherish these memories, especially because they are what introduced me to the world of BuzzFeed.

I take a few quizzes here and there, carefully selecting the ones that excite me the most. One may tell me where my next travel destination should be, another describing what season I am, or even one comparing my personality to a food! Sometimes the result is accurate, though oftentimes it is wrong. However, that doesn’t matter to me, as the thorough thought process when carefully choosing my answer and the anticipation of what my result will be is why I love BuzzFeed quizzes. Clearly, I take them very seriously.

In fact, these quizzes actually allow me to think deeper about who I am. For instance, say I took a quiz that states that the season Autumn embodies me. This allows me to contemplate further and question if my season really is Autumn. It raises certain questions that I would never think to bring up myself.

While I enjoy doing these quizzes with my friends, or even if it is just me, my favorite person to do BuzzFeed quizzes with will always be my sister. We always take turns picking quizzes and then guessing each other’s answers. It also operates as a way to see how much we know about each other. It is also especially convenient, as my sister and I can play on FaceTime when she is in college.

What started as a game my cousins and I played when we were younger turned into a special way for my sister and me to bond. And while the quizzes may be random, they are also a great way for me to learn more about myself. All in all, BuzzFeed quizzes have been a constant part of my life that I can always rely on to learn more about myself and create new long-lasting memories.

  1. Riya, BuzzFeed being taken almost too seriously is the only way to answer their quizzes. They have some of the funniest and most unique prompts that do affect how you might see yourself in even the slightest of ways. Your day isn’t 100% impacted if you don’t get the exact character you wanted, but at the same time it makes you think about why you didn’t get it in the first place. Your sister being your BuzzFeed person is so sweet, it’s so important to have a friendship based on something so “silly”, and keeping it thriving through that very “silly” thing that you know will never fizzle out. Fun quizzes are such a nostalgic thing that is truly special to keep close to you, so basing yourself off of them is just one personal way to keep that alive!

  2. I am also a big fan of personality quizzes and BuzzFeed! I used to spend hours looking up “What Hogwarts House Am I” tests and retaking it until I got Ravenclaw. As I got older, I moved towards taking uQuiz personality quizzes, which I would definitely recommend to you, as I think you would probably like them! I found your view on personality quizzes helping you to understand yourself further even if they aren’t accurate super interesting! I’ve never really thought about it in that way, but next time I take a personality quiz I will think about it a bit deeper than I had before.
I also love how it helps you stay connected to your older sister. It can be so hard to find things to do with people when you’re far away from each other, but it seems like you’ve cracked the code!

  3. I haven’t done a lot of Buzzfeed quizzes, but I have done a lot of online surveys for cash. They require you to answer different questions about what kind of houses you’re interested in or how you buy essentials like groceries. Just like how Buzzfeed made you think about what your quiz answers mean, the surveys I did made me think about stuff I would probably never tell another person. The way you were able to use the platform to connect with your sister shows how much you care about each other. The choices you make for each question allow you to share new things about yourself and think about your own identity. My brother and I never did quizzes together, but we do discuss a lot about our opinions on random topics, and this lets us learn more about each other. It was fun to read about how you were able to make a tradition out of something so simple!

  4. Riya, you just took me back on a trip to my middle school days. I remember the days when I would be on my mom’s old iPhone, scrolling through Apple News to find character quizzes that I wanted to take. Thus, I can relate to the meticulous thought process behind picking the options presented to you on the screen.

I also like your description of how BuzzFeed quizzes turned into a sibling bonding experience for you and your sister. Each sibling has a different relationship, and in turn, different ways of connecting with each other. It can almost feel like shining a new light on something each time this sort of bonding occurs. At least, that occurs for me—judging by your description, I’m sure you’ve experienced it as well.
