Riya, Week #1 - Why Anna is the Best Disney Princess
Anna from Frozen (alongside Rapunzel, of course) is the best Disney princess. But for some reason, I’ve never heard anyone say Anna was their favorite, or in their top two, or actually, even in their top three. I have heard many people say that Anna’s sister is their favorite, but never that Anna herself is. This has always confused me, as Anna has been one of my favorite Disney princesses since I was little.
I believe a major reason why people don’t like Anna is that they find her annoying. There are a multitude of reasons why people feel this way, the main ones being that she is too loud, energetic, clingy, and impulsive. However, her loud and energetic personality is part of the reason why I like her so much. And I would argue that Anna is “clingy” and “impulsive” because she was forced to spend her entire childhood completely isolated, which led her to crave the company of others.
I interpret Anna as someone who deeply loves her sister, especially since that is the only family she has left, rather than as clingy. Every person and every character has flaws, and while Anna has her fair share, she also has so many redeeming qualities such as being fiercely loyal, brave, and optimistic.
I think part of the reason why I like Anna so much is that I see some of myself in her. People often refer to me as “too loud” or “too energetic,” which is also how people perceive Anna. I don’t necessarily see these qualities as flaws, though, because they are a part of my personality and who I am. I see Anna through the same lens, as these traits make up who she is as a person.
Overall, I think Anna is an underrated character who deserves more recognition, and I stand by the fact that Anna is one of the best Disney princesses.
Hi Riya! I definitely relate to your love of Anna, even if she isn’t my overall favorite (I think that title would have to go to Mulan or Rapunzel). When my sister and I were little, we would always fight over who would get to be Anna when we played pretend. At first, my little sister always wanted to be Elsa, but I hyped up playing Anna so much that she changed her mind! Personally, I don’t think that Anna is too loud or energetic— In fact, people who are loud and energetic tend to be my favorite! That probably explains why I like Rapunzel so much. I think Anna is super fun, and someone who always speaks from the heart.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it’s super sweet that when given a prompt, you wrote about your favorite Disney Princess! I’ve always thought that people who are super passionate about random things are the most fun to talk to. I also have strong opinions on things, so I find when I meet people like me, we never run out of things to talk about! I’m thrilled to read about whatever you end up writing next.
I liked how you connected and saw yourself in Anna through shared personality traits. My personal favorite Frozen character has to be Hans. While Anna is impulsive and craving validation due to her loneliness early in her childhood, Hans is the stark opposite. Despite being born with 12 older brothers, he is absolutely ruthless, because to gain power he needs to be opportunistic. I kind of feel like Frozen’s ending was plot armor and he should have won, but I do agree that both Elsa and Anna are better people, albeit maybe not better written. I think that also shows how different individuals shape their identity from circumstances, as Anna responded to isolation with an extreme social drive while Hans responded to his family position by becoming self-serving.
ReplyDeleteDid you purposefully say "Anna's sister" instead of "Elsa"? That was funny. It's about time Anna got more "publicity" compared to her older sister. I also wholeheartedly agree with you! Anna is probably my favorite Disney princess (if I had to choose one) for the same reasons you listed. I like people who are energetic, positive, and look out for others - and Anna completely embodies that! That "annoying" and pesky language that Anna uses contributes to her identity, but that's something awesome to base your own off of too.
